CONFESSIONS OF A CAMP NURSE

There is a very special place here on this little sandbar known as Cape Cod. A place known as Camp Wingate*Kirkland (or Camp W*K). But it’s not the location that makes this place so special; although I can’t complain about the beautiful wooded location and the “office view” of Elisha’s Pond. You see what makes this place so magical is an exclusive recipe of campers, staff, and culture. I had no idea what I was getting myself into last year when I agreed to come on staff as a nurse in the health center. Let’s just say I was counting the days to the  ...

The Yin and the Yang

I’ve been on this journey of practicing yoga for exactly 4 years now. I started practicing when the counselor I was seeing at the time highly recommended it. So I did some quick research and found a studio near my house. It offered a hot and humid room of 105 degrees with a 90 minute class. I took my first class and I was hooked. The marathoner and Ironman in me was stoked. Not only would I get to de-stress and stretch, but I would get a workout in too. Sweet! I went back to see my counselor. I told her I found a studio I loved. She was excited and then asked me about it. So I went  ...

IT’S FREE (and awesome)

To all my readers and BYCC friends, let’s take a minute to honor something that is vital to our existence. Without this we would not be able to survive. No I’m not talking about coffee 🙂 But you can’t have coffee without this critical ingredient. Yes, you guessed it. I’m talking about water. H two the O. I have a mild love affair with it which I think is common for those of us Cancer Cape Cod native folks 🙂 Water is absolute liquid awesome. And did you know more than half of your bodacious bod is made up of this liquid awesomeness?!? I have been aware of this fact  ...

I PUT THIS IN MY MOUTH ALMOST EVERYDAY

Dunkin’ Donuts, Honey Dew, or Krispy Kreme? Brace yourself folks! This may sound like blasphemy coming from a native New Englander. Dunkin’ Donuts are my least favorite. I am more partial to Honey Dew and those damn Krispy Kreme’s. I’ll confess that when I worked those 24 hr shifts at New England Organ Bank I may have intended to bring my family a sweet treat home, but inevitably I caved and my boys were left with crumbs. So how are donuts related to the silky smooth thing I pop into my mouth almost every morning? It comes down to 1 single ingredient – oil.  ...

DIVA WTF?

Ok ladies. Let’s get real. Why is there so much stuff we keep from one another!?! Is it because of our insecurities? Perhaps the fear of not belonging? Well I say, take a hike fear! It’s fear that held me back; holds us back from living with authenticity. So I am here to proudly share something. The Diva Cup has changed my life as a woman. (If you’re reading this and you don’t know what the Diva Cup is hang tight.) If you’re reading this and “Ew gross!” pops into your head drop me a line and let me know why! Disclaimer: I am not getting paid to  ...

SIDE EFFECTS TO LIVING

The inspiration for this post came one day while I was listening to one of my  favorite Pandora stations, Yoga Workout. A commercial for Massage Envy came on …..”Help manage the side effects of life.” Now don’t get me wrong. I absolutely, 110% believe in the mission of taking care of yourself. I believe that regular massage is a form of body maintenance.  But c’mon people!! Side effects of life should include smiles, laughter, and joy; not tension and stress. However in the “never enough” world that we live in today this is all too often where we  ...
