THE BEST WAY TO SWEAT

Have you ever needed to blow off some steam? Have you ever gone for a run or hit the gym to help release some stress? It works – right?! Exercise is a wonderful and healthy way to relieve stress. But there’s something better and tomorrow I will begin an intensive month long training so I can teach it. So I can share it. So I can hopefully inspire and help 1 person, if not more, discover the tremendous healing benefits of what is known as Bikram yoga. I came to Bikram because the counselor I was seeing almost five years ago told me I needed to do some yoga. I was a runner and  ...

ODE TO TOM

She was obese with long, dark hair and I believe she was in her mid 50’s. I am ashamed to admit that is all I really remember about her. She had a daughter she was close with and a multitude of other family members and friends.  I think there were about 13 of them there that day she died. The day before, I had spent at least 2 hours with her daughter asking her the required medical and social history questions. I remember her daughter telling me how they used drugs together. I remember my sense of sadness for this woman’s daughter and for the better life this woman never had.  ...

LOVE WINS

Ok here it goes. On this sad day in America when so many lives were lost to another episode of gun violence, I find myself reunited with what burns deep within me. A desire to be seen and heard in this world. As a woman and a mother, I believe it is crucial now more than ever to live as beautiful, BOLD, and juicy as possible. It is time to share our stories. It is time to stop hiding. It is time to come out into the light and be messy honest with ourselves so that we can connect; so that we can love and heal together. So this evening this is where I am. I would love to hear where you are  ...

ASK THIS QUESTION AND THEN FIND OUT

There’s this AMAZING thing that happens when you can just get out of your own way; when you can acknowledge what your mind is telling you, but then let it go. When you can move past the “talk” and let yourself see what is possible; when you can ask the big questions; even the questions that aren’t necessarily big, but yet, still hold us back, and when you can then just go find out what the answer is – that’s where growth occurs and where the juiciness of life resides. For me, today was a question of “what if?” “What if I did it?”  ...

be BEAUTIFUL. come from we are connected. be out in the world with people. get out of your head and into your heart. be kind and compassionate. start with you.   be BOLD. have the courage to explore; to discover; to pursue your passion. be relentless in your pursuit and fearless in your faith. dare greatly. be brave. drop the past and embrace the present. let go. let yourself be seen. you are worth it.   be JUICY. drink deeply from the well of life. be unique. create and cultivate the authentic threads you are destined to weave. welcome curiosity and let it flow through you. be  ...

PB & J or BB & J?

Well I was going to write about my recent juice cleanse experience but let’s face it – it’s not that exciting. But it was a beautiful, bold, and literally juicy experience 🙂 So tonight I’m going with PB & J vs. BB & J. Peanut butter and jelly versus what?! Wait peanut butter and jelly?! Yes I’m talking about that boring, tired, sad little sandwich we all consumed as kids. Yes that crustless, mostly empty calorie sandwich you might make every single damn day for your blessed cherubs. Have you ever wondered why it was and still remains a go to? Why was  ...

HAPPY (EARLY) NEW YEAR

I said it last year and I’ll say it again. September is the new January. It is the perfect time to evaluate where you are; right here, right now – physically, mentally, and spiritually. Perhaps you had an epic summer full of friends & family, sun, and fun. Or perhaps you worked a lot and beached it too little. Regardless, here you are. Treating September like January helps to keep us from getting stuck in the same old song and dance routine we are used to performing.  I do want to acknowledge though that saying good-bye to the previous “year” AKA summer can be  ...

CONFESSIONS OF A CAMP NURSE

There is a very special place here on this little sandbar known as Cape Cod. A place known as Camp Wingate*Kirkland (or Camp W*K). But it’s not the location that makes this place so special; although I can’t complain about the beautiful wooded location and the “office view” of Elisha’s Pond. You see what makes this place so magical is an exclusive recipe of campers, staff, and culture. I had no idea what I was getting myself into last year when I agreed to come on staff as a nurse in the health center. Let’s just say I was counting the days to the  ...

DEAR TOURISTS

As the 4th of July is rapidly approaching, what better time to write this letter? So here it goes, from 1 Cape Codder to a fellow human … Dear Visitor, Tourist, or (as my dad always called “them”) “Timmie’s, It is summer. Ah summer! Arguably one of the best times of the year. Or is it? It depends on who you ask. If you ask my father you will get an earful about how “everything has changed.” How town is full of Timmies and nothing is the same anymore. How he can’t go ANYWHERE because of traffic. Ah yes, summer. SUMMER LOCAL – SUMMER NOT  ...
