Tom Brady made me do it …
If nothing else…I hope this inspires you …
Twice a month I volunteer at Cameron’s House which is a sober home for women about 20 miles North of where I live. I witnessed so many people lose their battle with addiction when I worked at New England Organ Bank which is why I felt called to be of service to these women. Every time I leave Cameron’s House and get in the car to drive home my cup runneth over. My heart is full of joy. I feel so grateful to be a part of supporting these women in recovery. It’s amazing to see their strength and to look them in the eye with the knowledge that I am no less; nor more. We are all the same. No I am not in recovery, but yes; yes I am a human with a heart. It is a privilege to get to know them and hear their stories. A few of the women have been clean for a little over a year and the other ladies have been clean for a few days to a few months. It is just amazing. They are amazing. Each and every one of these women.
Tonight I saw Eleanor, Rachel, Deanna, Tara, Hailee, Grace, Justine, Taryn, Lisa, Jenna, Erin, Kristin, and Melissa. What I loved most was something simple – warm smiles. I love sitting on that living room floor!
Sometimes I get asked what I do there when I volunteer. Every time I go to the house I do something different. I have done yoga, meditation, kindness rocks, self-inquiry, readings, discussion, and a taste of Byron Katie’s work. It doesn’t matter what I do; the result is the same – love & connection.
WHO DOESN’T WANT THAT?
THIS IS WHAT THIS WORLD – WE THE PEOPLE ARE CRAVING!
So if you can give it; for God’s sake dole it out like confetti at the Super Bowl parade. Don’t be stingy. Don’t keep it for just your friends & family or whoever else you may have in your “circle of trust.” Put yourself out there to offer what you can – and when you think you can’t – do it anyway and you will be surprised to see what you CAN do. Think you don’t have the time? Take a good hard look at what you are spending your time doing. Get brutally honest with yourself and ask just how much value you get from doing all the things you do or perhaps you don’t do.
