THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE

There are lots of things in our lives that are non-negotiable. We have to eat. We have to sleep. We have to x, y, z____.  But have you ever stopped to question; to identify the other non-negotiables in your life? The things that you have to do to keep you whole. The things you love to do. The things that if you don’t do or make negotiable will start to chip away at your body, mind, or spirit. How many times have you made a promise to yourself only to have broken the deal half way down the road? Perhaps you are like me and have countless broken promises littering the street in your rearview mirror. I littered so much, trying to do it all while trying to heal and serve myself, that I was arrested. Arrested by my body, mind, and spirit.

After my arrest, my breakdown to breakthrough, I got clear on what makes me whole. Since we are all  body, mind, & spirit I believe we all should have three non-negotiables in our lives. No more; no less. I can hear some of you saying, “There’s no way I can make room or make time to do 3 things I love every single damn day.” There’s a quote that one of my yoga teachers would often say during class – “It’s not yoga perfect; it’s yoga practice.”

Let’s take it a step further. It’s not life perfect; it’s life practice. Another one of my favorite quotes from Walt Disney, ” The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” Need I say more?

Step 1 – Identify 3 non-negotiables

Step 2 – Implement said non-negotiables. Start small and be realistic. Just begin.

Here are my three non-negotiables:

  • Movement: Call it physical activity, exercise, play, or hell, call it torture. Whatever you want to label it as. The point is this though – our bodies are made to move. You will generally find me either at the Bikram yoga studio, out running on the road, or or walking the dog. I will always, always be in awe of what the human body can do. Get up and get moving.

  • Alone time in nature. I am an empath. It is critical I get enough alone time. I crave being outdoors. If I am not outdoors I try to invite the outdoors in. I’m a windows wide open kinda girl. Pouring rain? I love being out in it. The endless gifts that nature has to offer are simply priceless. Open up your eyes and look around.

  • Art. For me this looks different depending on the day. You may find me listening to music, dancing, writing, or making kindness rocks. Despite what some of you may think we are all creative. You will find that with a steady practice of implementing your 2 other non-negotiables your creativity will blossom. Pick up that pen, brush, or guitar and create something. You never know who you may inspire along the way.
